We made 'grow/increase' patterns using things found in nature.
Place Value War- pull 3 cards and make the biggest number you can using those digits. Highest number wins a point. First to 10 points win.
MATH - learning about place value using ones/units, tens and hundreds blocks, we created Place Value robots, humans, or creatures.
MATH - Place Value. Students had to spin a number and collect the corresponding number of Tens Blocks. When they collected 10 TENS (100), they exchanged these into a Hundreds Block. First to 10 Hundreds (1000) wins! This taught students how our number system works and the breakdown of numbers.
Monster Crunch Math - count by 2s, 5, 10s, or 100s. In grade 3 we learn how to count on from any number (not just following the number pattern from 0) Land on a monster and correctly answer the next number in the sequence to advance.
Money Tree Math - we have been learning to count money using quarters, nickels, dime and loonies. Spin and collect the corresponding amount of coins. When you have collected enough coins to equal a Loonie, you can trade it in. 3 loonies on your money tree and you win!
ART
MATH Money Ring Toss - throw your change into the circle. Count all your coins together to find out how much you made! Try to beat your last $ value.
Class Store - pick items that you want to buy. See if you have enough money to purchase the items. Can you buy more? Do you have money left over? How much did it cost ALTOGETHER?
